While this story is made by Kendall & Kayla Petersen, it truly began generations ago when Kendall’s great-great grandparents came from Denmark. Follow along as we embark on digitizing history to preserve our findings, and equip the next generation in knowing their lineage. Our perspective relates mostly to the family farm, and we are so grateful for how many pictures we’ve collected to show the progress of where we call home.

On February 27, 1920, Peter A purchased the farm for $26,500. Peter A was born in January of 1866 in Denmark & passed away on July, 3 1964. His wife Mary was born in August of 1873 and passed away on February 4, 1952. Kayla’s favorite find has been Peter’s Bible written in Danish.

From then, the owners were Roland & Irma. Many thanks to Roland. He loved filming & taking photos. You’ll enjoy the autobiography he made. Irma, though, gave him a property worth filming. She had amazing flowers, a beautiful garden, and was known to be an encourager. I’ve heard that she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty & do the work needed.

Next, Lynn G & Joyce owned the farm while Roland & Irma moved into Elk Horn. They did an addition to the house, and were wonderful grandparents to Kendall. Lynn G gave Kendall a glimpse into owning cattle and other aspects of farming before passing away when Kendall was 16. Joyce had a love for the Danish culture and also preserving history. She was lovely to talk with and is the reason we’ve named our farm Joyful Acres. Joyce had a lot of joy that we hope this farm will showcase.

Now, Kendall & Kayla are working to invest back into the farm. We have many projects that we hope to also document for the next generation, and it’s a honor to be able to share it with you. Pictured is a photo from 2021 of us. Although our dog passed in 2026, he was a major joy at Joyful Acres. As you’ll find, Lynn G sold Archer Oil. We named our sweet boy Archer- he was mischievous gentleman.
